The issue has an impact on York County, where the county prison receives money for housing federal immigration detainees.
I asked Pennsylvania’s two U.S. senators for comment.
U.S Sen. Bob Casey, a Democrat, said in a statement:
“Allowing these indiscriminate cuts to cause problems for communities across the state is inexcusable when there is an alternative. Republicans and Democrats should come together on balanced approach to the sequester that cuts the deficit while maintaining key investments in jobs and security.”
A representative for U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey’s office said he wasn’t available for comment for the story, but added that the Republican senator proposed a bill last week that would have allowed the sequester cuts to continue but would have given the Obama administration more control over how the cuts were carried out.
